What is the mission of the San Juan Capistrano Equestrian Coalition?

We are dedicated to protecting and preserving the equestrian lifestyle of San Juan Capistrano. We bring together a diverse group of horse enthusiasts to organize and fund educational workshops, awareness projects, and community events. Our goal is to provide a sustainable future that continues to celebrate our equestrian heritage.

Who are we?

Equestrians of all disciplines and abilities, horse enthusiasts, friends of equestrians, and community members who enjoy horses and want to preserve our equestrian lifestyle.

What do we do?

We advocate to keep our town equestrian friendly.  We do this by educating our elected officials and citizens, providing a community for equestrians to flourish and funding solutions to current challenges facing our equestrian community.

How much does it cost to join?

Membership is only $50 a person/family for a lifetime, but this will be the last of the lifetime membership.  Next January (2024) we will be implementing a yearly membership fee for new members.

Do I need to own a horse to join?

Absolutely not, you just have to willing to advocate to keep our city horse friendly.

Where does the money go?

We are a volunteer board, so all the money raised goes right back into our projects.  The SJCEC began in 2003 and at that time we focused on trail projects, printed trail maps, and a GPS interactive trail map for the City’s website. As we grew, we commissioned 2 Equestrian Economic Impact Report that have that changed the perception of value of the horse in our city.  We produced videos to showcase our unique and diverse equestrians.  We work with environmental consultants, attorneys, and water quality engineers to ensure that the horse is part of a green solution.  Three years ago, we started the “100 Horsemen Grants” which provides grants to expand the horses involvement in community projects.

What are you working on now?

We have been working with the County and the City on the Capistrano Greenery, a composting project that uses the manure and shavings and creates compost for the City, County, and private landscaping.

How do I get involved?

Start by joining the SJCEC and receive our eblasts and social posts to stay informed.  We host Horsemen’s Happy Hour to help connect our members and friends.  We would love your help expanding our reach by having you share our posts and emails with your friends and family.  We may need you to come out and advocate for us so please keep your email current.
